Zach
Hi everyone, my name is Zach and I’m 21, born in Costa Mesa California, however consider myself an Oregonian as I was raised since 3rd grade in Ashland. I studied Restaurant and Hospitality Management at Western Culinary Institute here in town, and realized halfway through that instead of restaurants I wanted to go into hotels. I like the ability to have more opportunities to interact with the guest on a one-on-one basis, plus it’s a bit slower of a pace than restaurants.
I am the Guest Services Manager here at the Hotel Deluxe, so you can find me with my hands in everything from parking cars, to checking guests in/out. I help with room service, housekeeping engineering; basically wherever there is a need for some extra hands I’m there. I attend to the needs of both the guests and employees and enjoy those times when I can do something special and above and beyond for both of them. I am a very personable guy, I like to joke and have fun (my personal philosophy is “work hard, play hard”).
When I’m not at the hotel I can be found playing guitar, jogging, hiking and a variety of other outdoor activities. I am a chef at heart so I love to cook (been doing it since I was a kid), and I also love to play pool and enjoy a captain and coke at one of the many bars in this city.
I truly enjoy my job and strive to give the best service possible. I figure in some sort of karma way, the service that I give to guests will be returned to me in some way 10 fold. I am however not a one man team and would like to say that my job is somewhat easy because of the staff that we have here, if it weren’t for their talent, I would have a lot more stress.
The times here that I cherish the most is the coincidental meetings of guests with similar backgrounds or hobbies. For instance I introduced myself to a guest about 2 months ago that had also grown up in my hometown in Ashland. We talked for about a half hour reminiscing about lakes, and parties, and old stomping grounds. It was great to connect with him on that level and now we are on a first name basis and regale each other with our tales of the city after we have visited. It’s not so much about getting to know the guests, but rather about making them feel at home in a genuine way.
Running a staff here can be quiet at times but for the most part these guys and gals keep me on my toes.
