On the Set

Emily

Hello blog world, my name is Emily and I’m in my mid twenties and a local girl, grew up on the East side of Portland. I left Portland after graduating high school to attend college in Los Angeles California. After that I did a bit of traveling in Europe, and spent some time in Middle America. But I loved Portland enough to come back to it.

I’ve been working at the Hotel deLuxe since April of 2006 - so I have been here from the beginning. I am currently the PM Shift Supervisor for the front desk. I do all of the regular guest agent functions, such as check ins and outs, reservations, concierge duties, special guest amenities (champagne, cards, flowers, etc) as well as over all support for all departments throughout the evening. I usually make the schedule for the front desk, track occupancy patterns, coordinate room service and many little technical tid bits.

The part about my job that I enjoy the most is probably the people I get to interact with - my co- workers, my managers and my guests. We get to meet some fascinating people here at the desk! .

I am a history lover - my minor in college was Religious Studies and my major was Irish History and Sociology. I was lucky enough to grow up with my grandmother in the same house, and she shared her love of older films with me. I probably knew more black and white films than I did Disney! My mother, also a local girl, often worked as a chorus girl for the old Civic Theater (which is now the Social Security Office*sniff*) and told me many stories about the Mallory and how all the ’stars’ would stay here. So you can see why the deLuxe, as an historical property that focuses on the Golden Era of Hollywood, is such a great niche for me.

Due to my early education in older films, the first man I fell in love with was Sir Laurence Olivier as Heathclif in Wuthering Heights. After dear Laurie, it was Errol Flynn… don’t think I’ve ever really gotten over him:) I often arrange to do room tours on the seventh floor, “the Exiles”, just so that I can go by his pictures in the West hallway. *sigh*
