It will be incognito: the Hotel deLuxe New Year’s Eve party

Posted by Emily on December 15th, 2010

What could be better than a big, beautiful party where no one recognizes you? This year, don a fancy mask and period garb, and join us on New Year’s Eve for a Venetian Masquerade extravaganza at the Hotel deLuxe. We encourage you to dress up, drink up, and stay up!

This special package will include one night’s stay in the hotel, parking, two drink tickets per person, party favors, and a midnight champagne toast. A special dinner will also be available for those who choose to make a whole night of it. Details are still to be determined (we’re hoping for live music!), so call the hotel to find out the latest scoop. Get out the glitter and feathers and get ready for Portland’s best New Year’s Eve bash going!

    Ciao,

    Emily

What is the sound of 200 gigantic horns blowing? The Tuba Christmas Concert in Pioneer Square

Posted by Brandon on December 8th, 2010

I’ll admit it. I didn’t know there was such a thing as a tuba concert. A tuba concert playing Christmas songs. I didn’t even know you could fit 200 tuba players into Pioneer Square at one time. This I gotta see.

On December 11 at 1:30pm, you’re going to need to take a little break from your shopping frenzy, grab a hot chocolate from whichever of the many coffee shops you happen to be closest to, and set yourself down on those familiar brick steps. Next come the tubas. Maybe this is old hat to you, but I’m curious, amused, and somewhat afraid, all at the same time.

And I hear that, even with the great booming din, the audience is encouraged to sing along. Hmmm. I guess it’s easier than door-to-door caroling with a tuba.

    See you there,

    Brandon
