I really love our Portland aesthetic. The bridges, the mix of old and new buildings, the max and the park blocks. I lived in L.A. for awhile, and believe me not every city cares as much about those things as we do…

So when I read on the Portland Mercury blog that the building on SW 10^th and 11^th on Stark with that great checkerboard design had been sold, and might go away, it’s got my dander up.

Part of what I love about Hotel deLuxe is its great look and design. They could have done anything when they remodeled, but they made the look a priority. So let me just say that I hope the new owners have the good sense to save the checkerboard building for the same reason.

In the meantime, you better get over there to take a parting look just in case…
