Yo everyone. Man, it seems like a long time since my last post. It was a year ago… Anyway, 2008 has got off to a great start. We had a nice Chrsitmas, El Debarge was fun (Lakeside, the funk act that opened, stole the show). And the snowboarding on New Year’s day — awesome.
And thanks Emily for the post about the Chuck Close exhibit at the Portland Art Museum. We went and it was incredible. I hadn’t heard of him before, but I totally loved his stuff. Makes me want to try painting.
I also discovered the Northwest Film Center theater right there in the museum. How’d I miss that one? We saw “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” after the exhibit. You have to see it. It’s this incredible story about this guy who is totally paralyzed and how he dictates a book using just his eyelid. I kid you not.
Cheers,
Keith

I’ve been thinking. I overindulged during Christmas (I dare anyone to pass up my Mom’s marzipan). And I pulled out all the stops at the Hotel deLuxe New Year’s soirée. Delicious food, illustrious libations.
So I decided to take a couple of days off and take the train up to Seattle for a night. After all, I didn’t overindulge there. Plus, I love Seattle. And I also just love the train. When else do you get 4 uninterrupted hours to read, do the crossword puzzle, and/or daydream? The view is pretty spectacular, too.
The train station is maybe a mile from Hotel deLuxe. Two trains a day go to Seattle, one in the morning that gets you there at noonish, and one at noonish that gets you there around 4. And it drops you virtually right downtown. It’s a grand day out.
Till later,
Emily

Well, I can tell you where I was on the 1st. I was carving my way through the fresh powder (fingers crossed) on Mt. Hood! It’s one of the great things about Portland. You can hit a roaring New Year’s party in town, and next morning be on the mountain.
I don’t know whose idea it was last year but a bunch of us went up on New Year’s and it was spectacular. There were, um, a few others on the mountain, but not nearly as many I expected.
Last year we did Timberline, which if you haven’t been to the lodge, you’ve got to go. Even if you don’t ski. It’s an incredible place. Built in the 1930s with these enormous logs and all this awesome ironwork.
But this year we went with Meadows. I’m glad everyone drank up on New Year’s. The worse your hangover was, the shorter the lines were for us…;-)
Have fun,
Keith
