My name is Lance W. I’m 23, recently graduated, mostly single and live at home. More precisely, I live at my parents’ home (Don and Gloria. “Glo” according to her friends and her golf bag). I also have a sister, Rose, who is in her second year at Portland State University studying how to make me feel responsible for global warming.
I’ve been at the Hotel deLuxe for about five months. If you visit this one-of-a-kind Portland Hotel, and you should, you’re very likely to see me. There’s a good chance I’ll be the guy opening the door for you. You don’t get a doorman at all Portland hotels…
As jobs go, it’s a pretty good one. I enjoy it. I’m not behind a desk. I get to meet lots of new and interesting people every day. I’m close to great Portland restaurants for lunch.
And I’m surrounded by the movies. Everything about Hotel deLuxe is infused with movies. It can feel like a set sometimes. Just step into the lobby or have a drink in the Driftwood Room. You’ll see what I mean.
And now there’s “On the Set”. I just mentioned the blog idea in passing. We could discuss what’s happening at Hotel deLuxe and around town. Share recommendations about Portland restaurants, Portland shopping. And over it all, of course, we could sprinkle movies. I couldn’t believe it when my boss said, “Alright, do it.”
So here were are, and will be twice each week. Come back and check in. Until then, let me leave you with this perfect picture of my dad. When I told Don about the blog, he shook his head and said, “I don’t care for monster movies.”
The question is: Was he thinking of Irwine S. Yeaworth’s 1958 version starring Steve McQueen or the Chuck Russell version in 1988 starring Kevin Dillon? These things matter.
That’s a wrap.
Lance
